MUA - Makeup Ireland

Welcome! For me, this blog is long overdue. To start I’ll tell you who I am. I am a makeup artist, which is something I love doing but I also studied journalism for four years in DIT. I have wanted to write a blog for such a long time and I hope to marry both my love for writing and all things makeup in my blog posts here. I hope you find some interesting titbits and I always welcome suggestions on topics you would be interested in hearing about.

Let me tell you all a little bit about myself and how I have come to where I am now. I finished my degree in journalism with French (my French is pretty rusty) 8 years ago and headed off to Canada to join my now husband for 6 months. While I was in Canada I was inspired by a friend I met who was a manager of a MAC makeup counter. When I got home to Ireland I made it my mission to become a makeup artist and one day manage a MAC counter. It took a few years to build up my confidence and my skill but I achieved both these goals. My philosophy on makeup is to enhance your own natural beauty, look after the canvas underneath and it will make the application easy. My philosophy on life is to enjoy everything in moderation and appreciate the special people and everything good that you have in your life every day. That’s how I stay happy anyway.

Since becoming a make up artist, I have worked for Decleor and Royal Effem, Smashbox and eventually MAC Cosmetics. I have loved every day of my make up journey and now I love sharing all the knowledge and skills I have picked up throughout the years working with many talented makeup artists. I was inspired every day by the artists I worked with on counter. I also worked with Christine Lucignano a few years back and loved her creativity and artistic streak. Just last year I went to Paris fashion week with MAC, it was an incredible experience and I worked with some of the worlds top makeup artists- Val Garland and Tom Pecheaux to name a couple. I worked on the Giambatista Valli, Ellie Saab and Schiaparelli shows. I loved every minute. I had just found out I was pregnant with my first baby 2 days before leaving for Paris so it was a whirlwind of a time for me!

To date I have worked on some beautiful Irish models Vogue Williams-I would hardly call it work, she’s such a stunner, Roz Purcell, Michelle McGrath, who is a true natural beauty and a good friend of mine. I worked with Ellie Goulding, Leinster Rugby team, Lisa Fitzpatrick, The Saturdays. I have done editorial work for VIP and Xpose magazines and I have done some work with TV3 and I am collaborating with Beaut.ie at the moment.

I have actually started a blog twice before but I have never managed to keep it going with my busy work schedule but this time I’m determined to enjoy writing here and keep it going. Everything here is my opinion only so please do correct me if you feel I am misinformed. I love to learn and I am always looking for new inspiration.
